Our Organization
Code of Ethics
The Code of Ethics and Practices is a brief set of affirmative declarations by service providers, which are basic to the programs offered by North Peace Community Resources Society:
Personnel will treat clients/families with dignity and will respect their unique differences in culture, religion, race and sexual orientation.
Personnel will respect the confidentiality of each client/family. Personnel will not release any identifying information verbally or in writing without the client’s signed permission (excepting the threat of suicide, homicide or suspected child abuse or when requested by a Court of law).
Personnel will respect, safeguard and advocate for the rights of each client and/or family.
Personnel will be knowledgeable about and adhere to all relevant municipal, provincial and federal laws.
Personnel will make every effort to complete a standard assessment at the beginning of the service provision, except when the client is in crisis.
Personnel will treat clients holistically, encompassing family, peer groups and community.
Personnel will cooperate with other service providers which offer service to our clientele.
Personnel will recognize and respect the contributions of colleagues, employer and other service providers. Personnel will represent themselves in a professional manner at all times. Personnel will contribute to and promote a collegial and supportive working environment.
Recognizing that North Peace Community Resources Society staff are a catalyst for change, personnel will:
- Utilize current and knowledgeable methods and techniques in order to provide quality service to our clients.
- Actively seek out opportunities to learn and develop as well as support growth in our co-workers and other service providers.
- Remain committed to personal growth and wellness as essential to being an effective service provider.
If personnel do not have the skill level to provide the help needed, personnel will refer a client to other qualified service providers.
Personnel will provide a means for evaluation of progress so that the client is not misled or taken advantage of.
Personnel will not engage in any relationship with the client other than a service provider/client relationship nor will they give a client the false hope that the service provision relationship can be anything more than that, or that it can be permanent.
Personnel will not touch a client or convey any messages which might be interpreted as expressing sexual feelings for the client (except when having to physically restrain a client – using authorized methods to ensure their safety or the safety of personnel/others).
Personnel will not require payment from a client for the provision of service except for authorized resource materials.
Personnel will not introduce religious concepts.
Personnel will be careful to properly assess, intervene and document the possibility and potential of suicidal or homicidal behaviour by a client.
Personnel will report the sexual or physical abuse of a child directly to MCFD, then to the supervisor, then to the police or other authorized persons.
Personnel will take direct steps to inform the potential victim of homicidal threats made by a client.
Personnel will not devalue the competence of another service provider in the presence of anyone, but will direct any complaints that cannot be resolved directly with the person to the appropriate disciplinary body.
Personnel will avoid expressing anger or reacting emotionally to the client.
Personnel will not advise a client to separate from their partner or to end their relationship but will allow them to make their own decision.
Personnel will not pressure a client to remain in a program against the client’s expressed desire to terminate, except in cases of mandated clients. Personnel will encourage them to be in compliance.
Personnel will not provide service while under the influence of alcohol or other substances which could impact negatively on the client.
